Petra Jordan

Petra is definition a destination you need to add to your bucket list. It has incredible history carved into rock that has lasted for thousands of years. An oasis in the desert! From the Bedouins that live there, to the ancient water system, to the spectacular carved burial places, this place does not disappoint. I have come here 3 different times and I still haven't seen everything. I still haven't found the huge amphitheater. I will post some pictures here just to give you a taste of this amazing place.

As you enter the main atrium after hiking or riding the horse through the maze of rock you end up here. Amazing place!

My group decided to climb up onto the cliffs on the right side as you start hiking through the site. You can start seeing the cut tombs in the rock.

We continued hiking and started to see what it looked like a building in the distance.

Here is the front fasade of the burial tomb. Inside was just an empty room with black walls and ceiling.

Can you see the detail of the carving and building the archways? So cool! I have seen this kind of archways in Jerusalem and Egypt.

Doesn't this look like an opening to a house? I didn't go further of fear of intruding on someone's living area. I love these type of pictures!

I hope that these pictures will spark a desire in you to visit this amazing place! If you don't know the history, it was inhabited by the Nabaterans in the first century AD. There are some that think this is where the 3 wisemen came from who searched out and visited Jesus and his family, giving gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh.
